Professor Muhammad Bello Shittu who has been an extraordinary advocate and representative for the IACD in African region is completing his term as IACD vice president. Professor Shittu has been involved with the IACD for over 10 years and will continue doing so after the handing over of this position. Professor Shittu has been highly influential in many great initiatives including regional conferences that have helped to create and strengthen the community networks. He leaves behind some big shoes to fill and has agreed to be a mentor to his successor. Professor Shittu steps down in June.
Following the February board meeting John Stansfield has been elected Vice President - Elect of the IACD. H is the current Chairperson of ACDA and one of two Oceania Directors for the IACD. John is deputy editor of Whanake; the Pacific Journal of Community Development and was chair of the 2017 IACD and ACDA Community Development conference held in Auckland.
John who lives on glorious Waiheke Island in Auckland, Aotearoa, New Zealand, has had an extensive career in community development. He is currently a senior lecturer in the department of Social Practice at Unitec in Auckland where he leads community development teaching and research. John trained in NZ, Bangladesh and the USA and has worked across New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and other Pacific Islands. John is the founder of the Global Community Development Exchange GCDEX.
